Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse City School District officials were met with a packed house at their board meeting on Tuesday night as parents raised concerns about recent issues in the school district.

Many parents spoke out in regards to a high number of minority students that have faced suspensions in the school district.

But Superintendent Sharon Contreras said that when it comes to addressing the problems, parents and educators should work together rather than place blame.

"I ask you the same question, who will stand for children? We do not stand by accusing one another. We do not stand by attacking parents, teachers, administrators or students, but by joining together to advocate for our children. Who will stand for children? By standing and working together, we can have great schools that we desire, and that our children deserve,” Contreras said.

Some parents at the meeting also expressed concerns about the safety of students because of violence and bullying in the schools.
