SALINA (WSYR-TV) - CBA baseball coach Tom Dotterer threw out the first pitch to open the little league season in the Town of Salina on Saturday.
Dotterer has been recovering after being shot in the eye during a robbery at his liquor store a few months ago.
From playing to coaching, Dotterer has a storied baseball career in Central New York. Still, he said this is the first time he's ever thrown out a first pitch.
"I'm just honored, pleased. Any time I can do anything to show my appreciation for the game that has basically been my whole life, I’m happy to do it,” said Dotterer.
One of the two men accused of the robbery and shooting, 19-year-old Shireff Williams, recently plead guilty and is expected to be sentenced to 16 years in prison.
On hearing the news Saturday, Dotterer said “I forgive him.”
