Trial set for man accused of murdering girlfriend at SUNY Brockport

A New Hartford man accused of brutally beating his girlfriend to death in her SUNY Brockport dorm room will go on trial in September.
Rochester (WSYR-TV) – A New Hartford man accused of brutally beating his girlfriend to death in her SUNY Brockport dorm room will go on trial in September.

Clayton Whittemore has been indicted on the charge that he murdered Alexandra Kogut on Sept. 29, 2012.

His trial will begin Sept. 30, 2013 in Monroe County.

Whittemore was attending Utica College at the time of the incident.

Whittemore and Kogut were both New Hartford graduates.

Whittemore and his attorneys were in State Supreme Court in Rochester on Wednesday. His attorneys challenged a police search of his car at the Thruway rest stop in DeWitt where he was arrested.

According to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office documents, the man admitted to a deputy that he murdered Kogut with a curling iron.
