Saranac Lake (WSYR-TV/WFFF-TV) - For the first time in nearly a decade, police are investigating a homicide in Saranac Lake.

Neighbors and police say the incident is very unusual, but police have made an arrest and believe this was an isolated incident, WFFF-TV reported.

Surrounding the entire house – yellow crime scene tape, and police. A home in Saranac Lake New York is now a murder scene.

"Lots of cops, I was woken up by the sirens," Stephen King said.

King lives next door to where police say a long-term Lake Placid resident, 65-year-old Ward Wilber - was stabbed to death.

"There was significant blunt force trauma and he was stabbed," Franklin County District Attorney Derek Champagne said.

Police arrested 29 year old Angela Ball and charged her with second degree murder.

"Very surprised, definitely doesn't happen every day," King said. King didn't know Angela Ball well – but saw her around from time to time.

"She seemed like a pretty normal person to me," King added.

Police say the suspect definitely knew her victim. They say around 8:30 Monday morning, Wilber showed up to Ball's house.

"We believe it was an intimate relationship, previously, but during the last year, that it was just friends or acquaintances," Champagne said.

Two and a half hours later, police were called to the scene. They say Angela Ball dialed 911 and reported an assault. Ball was still there when police showed up, and was later arrested.

"It is an extensive investigation that is continuing and they're working very diligently, many hours are being spent on this," Saranac Lake Police Chief Bruce Nason said.

Ball was taken into custody on Tuesday night without bail.

She is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
