Construction underway at State Fairgrounds

With only weeks left until the New York State Fair, crews are working to finish up multiple construction projects before opening day.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - With only weeks left until the New York State Fair, crews are working to finish up multiple construction projects before opening day.

On Monday the K-Rockathon stage was still being torn down after Saturday’s lengthy concert.

The event typically draws over 10,000 people that end up leaving a lot of trash to be cleaned.

Acting State Fair Director Troy Waffner says it’s not more than the average Chevy Court concert.

”We can typically get our end cleaned up in a day, two days at most,” Waffner said.

There are also major improvements coming before opening day that include a new set of concrete steps into the science and industrial with handicap accessibility, remodeling the central lot to be safer for buses and pedestrians, and building a new pick up and drop off point for parents.

Waffner says everything will be finished in time for opening day.

The fair runs August 21 through Labor Day.
