Geddes (WSYR) – Lightning knocked out power at multiple State Fair locations on opening day as a thunderstorm swept through Central New York.

NewsChannel 9 crews at the Fairgrounds reported seeing lightning and then hearing what sounded like an explosion before the outage Thursday morning.

The Fair's new digital sign and the administration building were without power until late in the morning.

NewsChannel 9's Bridge Street was unable to broadcast from Chevy Court until around 10:45 a.m.

Power was restored at most of the affected areas well before noon.

A pole was apparently knocked down by lightning near Gate 2, according to a NewsChannel 9 photographer.
