2 arrested after brief stolen van chase in the city of Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse Police have arrested two people after a short chase in a refrigeration van that had been reported stolen early Friday morning.

Police responded to Andy’s Produce on Court Street at 5:06 a.m. on Friday after the business reported that one of its refrigeration vans had been stolen.

Police caught up with the van on James Street and tried to pull the driver over.

When the driver refused to stop, police pursued the van until it finally pulled over at the intersection of Hawley Avenue and North Crouse Avenue.

Police charged 52-year-old Ernest Garcia of Liverpool and 55-year-old Susan Johnson of Syracuse with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Both suspects were taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center pending arraignment.
