SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Construction on a new $30 million cardiovascular center is underway at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Longtime St. Joe’s physician, Dr. John Merola donated $3 million towards the major overhaul—a contribution he says is worth the lives it will save.
It's all part of the hospitals 150th anniversary campaign which kicked off Friday morning. In addition to upgrades, the board aims to raise $20 million to help with some of the costs.
“We are known as one of the top 15 cardiovascular centers in the country, so to reinvest in that reinforces that regional nature of St. Joe’s,” said Chairman of St. Joseph’s, David Panasci.
The hospital is also renovating the college of nursing and the breast care and surgery program. All the work will be completed by the 150th anniversary in spring of 2019.
