34 members sworn into Syracuse Police Academy

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Over 30 people are now on track to become Syracuse Police officers.

Mayor Stephanie Miner and Police Chief Frank Fowler were responsible for swearing in the new members Monday, where they will now go onto the Police Academy.

“People that enter into this profession are different. They are different from any other people in our society. And number one. we have a heart for service. We want to serve others and that's the one thing that we all have in common, and the second thing is we want to take a proactive approach to making our communities better,” Fowler said. 

More than 800 people applied for to be Syracuse Police officers.

After the six-month Police Academy, the new officers will train in the field with a veteran officer.
