6-year-old recovering after being hit by car on Teall Ave

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A 6-year-old has been hospitalized after being hit by a car on Teall Avenue Thursday afternoon.

Deputies responded to Teall Ave. near Short Street around 3:27 p.m.

According to deputies, a 56-year-old man was driving northbound on Teall Ave. when he observed a group of children standing on the east shoulder of the street. The man tells deputies that he was continuing to keep an eye out for the kids.

A 6-year-old girl crossed the street from the opposite shoulder.

The man slammed on his brakes in order to avoid hitting her, but was unable to stop before hitting her.

The girl was rushed to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies say the driver is being cooperative.

There is no indication of alcohol or cell phone use being factors in the accident, deputies say.

No tickets have been issued and the accident remains under investigation.
