Bed bug threat prompts Henninger HS student protest

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Students at Henninger High School walked out Thursday morning amid fears of bed bugs found in the school.

Students were joined by some parents at a protest outside the school building.

The Syracuse City School District has advised students to stop bringing any backpacks or bags to school until further notice as the district tries to combat the recent bed bug issue.

The school is currently planning on using an organic treatment to combat the problem this weekend.

Some parents have called NewsChannel 9 asking why the district has declined to close the school in order to deal with the problem immediately.

In total, six bed bugs have been found in the last two weeks. They are easily transported on clothing or in bags.
