PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (WSYR-TV) - One of the Big East Conference’s most notable figures has died.
According to multiple reports, former Villanova coach Rollie Massimino died at his home in Florida at the age of 82.
He was battling lung cancer, according to ESPN.
Massimino cemented his legend when he led the Wildcats to an improbable NCAA Tournament title in 1985.
Massimino guided Villanova – a No. 8 seed – to a win over a top-seeded Georgetown team that featured Patrick Ewing.
His career also included stints at UNLV and Cleveland State.
