Brr! Another morning of record cold temperatures

Patchy frost likely across parts of CNY Saturday morning

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - The Syracuse airport tied a record low temperature Friday morning for September 1st when the temperature dropped to 42 degrees. This ties the previous record low temperature of 42° set back in 1967.

Why is it this chilly? We have a dip in the jet stream over the northeast and high pressure at the surface. That is allowing any heat built up during the day to easily escape into the atmosphere. It was even snowing just north of Quebec, Canada Friday morning!

Some of our viewers, especially north and east of Syracuse reported some light frost.
This photo of frost is from our weather watcher in Redfield, Carol Yerdon, taken Friday morning.

And guess what? Our air was even colder Saturday morning.

The record low for September 2nd in Syracuse is 40° also set in 1967 and we tied it Saturday morning!

Weather watcher, Carol, caught this blue heron checking out the frost Saturday morning.

Temperatures Saturday night/ Sunday morning won't be as cold, we have clouds moving in to bring rain Sunday morning.
