Man who peered into occupied shower at the YMCA banned from facility

FAYETTEVILLE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A Syracuse man is facing charges for allegedly peering into an occupied shower in the men’s locker room in the Fayetteville YMCA at Towne Center.

Police say two other members of the club reported the activity-- a 13-year-old and a 19-year-old.

With the help of staff members, police arrested 40-year-old Paul Rolince of Kingsford Terrace and charged him with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Rolince was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

Police say there were no reports of any physical contact between the suspect and anyone else.

They are asking anyone who witnesses a similar crime to call 911.

Executive director of the YMCA of Greater Syracuse, Hal Welsh, sent out the following statement:

At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. That includes providing spaces where everyone feels a secure sense of belonging. Every month, we check each of our members against a sex offender registry - and we check all new members when they join - so we can prevent offenders from entering our facilities. Although we don’t have cameras in our locker and shower areas, our staff regularly check those rooms to ensure that members are safe.

Our best line of defense, however, is our members. We’re proud that our members came forth to help us in this case. If you or a member of your family are aware of any suspicious activity in any of our branches, please report it to Y staff immediately. We take such reports seriously and will do all we can to keep the YMCA a place of belonging for all.

If you have any information that might help their investigation, call Manlius Police at (315) 682-2212.

You can also leave anonymous tips at (315) 682-TMPD or by emailing

Rolince is now banned from the facility.
