Cuomo blocks free Central New York Thruway toll bill

ALBANY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Governor Andrew Cuomo has blocked a bill that would have allowed commuters in the Syracuse area toll-free access to the Thruway.

The bill, which would have eliminated tolls for people traveling a short distance in the Syracuse area, had already passed the Senate and Assembly.

State Senators John DeFrancisco and Dave Valesky were among the bill’s sponsors.

The bill would have enabled local drivers to obtain permits that will allow them to use the Thruway to travel between exits 34-A – I-481 – and 39 – I-690.

According to the bill, drivers would need to pay a fee for the permit to cover administrative costs.
