NEW YORK CITY (WSYR-TV) - The daughter of a New York City cop killed during the events of 9/11 was sworn in as a new recruit for the New York Police Department officer on Thursday.
A Long Island native, Brittney Roy took the oath along with more than 470 other officers at the police academy in Queens.
She is the daughter of the late NYPD Sgt. Timothy Roy.
“She’s really thrilled to carry on the legacy of her father, and I think it’s great. Her dad was a courageous guy,” NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill told New York Newsday.
New NYPD recruits undergo six months of training after they are sworn in – learning primarily about neighborhood policing.
