DeFrancisco loses GOP straw poll to Dutchess County Exec

ALBANY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Longtime State Senator and gubernatorial candidate John DeFrancisco lost New York GOP straw poll to Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro on Friday.

83 votes were tallied – with Molinaro receiving 55 of them.

DeFrancisco received 23 votes, while Joe Holland had 5.

Despite the strong showing in the straw poll, which was held in Saratoga, Molinaro said in January that he does not intend to run.

However, Party Chairman Ed Cox has indicated that Molinaro will now run.

DeFrancisco’s campaign says they are looking forward to continuing their run.

His campaign manager, Bill O’Reilly, said, “Senator DeFrancsico will let nothing distract him from the nomination.”

The state GOP Tweeted the result around 2 p.m.
