Drivers confused over Soule Road blinking light: Your Stories

CLAY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - If you travel southbound on Soule Road in Clay near the 481 on-ramp, you may have noticed a traffic light that was put up in may with a blinking yellow arrow that seems to never change.

The DOT tells us while the arrow is blinking yellow most of the time, causing drivers to yield to oncoming traffic, the light does turn green during the morning and afternoon travel peaks.

This is done in attempt to prevent a backup on Route 31.

Gene Cilento, a spokesperson for the DOT, says federal studies show that there are fewer crashes with flashing yellow left turn arrows as opposed to the traditional traffic signals.

For that reason, expect to see more blinking yellow left turn arrows in Central New York.
