SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - EPSN anchor Adnan Virk will be giving a free talk at Le Moyne college on Monday about an issue prominent in sports headlines lately-- protests.
Virk’s talk is called “It’s Never Just Sports: Social Justice, Protests and Activism.”
"I think the whole link to the past is critical because for anyone who says where is this coming from, where did this start, it’s been happening in this country for a longtime. It goes back of course to Muhammad Ali and John Carlos and Tommy Smith at the Olympics, and guys like Arthur Ashe and people willing to speak out and effect social change,” Virk told NewsChannel 9.
Virk started as an anchor on ESPNews back in 2010, but now hosts baseball and college football studio shows.
“Social protest is not just linked to the NFL players-- the NBA guys have done it as well, LeBron James, Chris Paul, and Carmelo Anthony. It’s definitely a polarizing time in our country politically and I think the sports should be no different if they want to speak out well.” Virk said.
His talk will also include a Q&A.
The discussion will take place at 7 p.m. at Le Moyne’s James Commons Campus Center.
It’s free and open to the public.
