Oswego firefighters battle excavator fire at Port City Logistics

OSWEGO, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - The Oswego Fire department responded to a structure fire just after 7:30 Friday morning.

When crews arrived at Port City Logistics on East Seneca Street in Oswego, an excavator was on fire and was being dragged out of the building by another piece of heavy machinery.

Firefighters were challenged by the high heat from the fire, flammable liquids spilling from the excavator and fire hydrants 700 feet away.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Jon Chawgo, "The excavator was pulled outside the structure, certainly saving the building from sustaining damage.  Our crew did a great job in challenging conditions."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is not considered suspicious.
