Explosion destroys homes in Little Falls

Neighborhood Evacuated

LITTLE FALLS, NY - An explosion and fire has destroyed at least one home on West Main Street in Little Falls.

Fire officials are not sure if anyone was inside the residence at 389 West Main Street at the time of the explosion. Initial request from first responders was for a large number of ambulances to report to the scene.

It is also not yet known what may have caused the explosion, but authorities at the scene indicated that it might be a gas leak.

One witness at the scene told Eyewitness reporter Grace Fernandez that he felt the explosion several miles away from West Main St.

The large and intense blaze, that may have involved several others homes, has reportedly disrupted communications in that part of the valley.

Phone lines and a relay system to cell phone towers were reported to have been melted by the fire.

The structures are on the north side of West Main St in Little Falls, adjacent to the CSX railroad tracks.

Out of concern for what may be the underlying reason for the explosion, residents in the neighboring area around 389 West Main St are not being allowed into their homes.
