Improvements coming

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - - Keep umbrella handy through Tuesday morning.
- March feel continues into Tuesday, but April feel returns mid to late week.
- Still cold enough for snow to be in the air at times thru Tuesday AM, especially in the hills.
- Noticeably better come Wednesday!
- Not too bad Thursday and Friday.
- Unfortunately some showers may arrive for mom this weekend.

Lakeshore Flood Warning again for southern and eastern shores of Lake Ontario:

Gusty west-northwest winds will continue into the start of tonight, which is why the National Weather Service in Buffalo is continuing its Lakeshore Flood Warning until 11PM this evening for areas along the immediate shoreline in Wayne, Northern Cayuga, and Oswego counties.

The gusty, chilly west-northwest winds will continue to push the high water levels on Lake Ontario up onto the immediate shoreline, bays and inlets via large waves across the aforementioned counties. Some significant flooding is expected to persist in spots this evening.

Some beach and coastline erosion will also continue due to the waves crashing ashore. Winds will slowly relax this evening.

There’s also a Flood Warning for minor flooding due to over 2 inches of rain the last few days! Minor flooding is occurring on Cayuga Lake in Tompkins County at Ithaca until further notice.

Chilly air and damp weather persists into the start of Tuesday:

A weakening low pressure system has essentially stalled to the north of Montreal. This system has been plaguing the region since late last Thursday and will continue to affect us in CNY into Tuesday morning before finally getting out of our hair!

The weakening storm will keep more clouds in here than not tonight into Tuesday with a little rain and snow shower activity around into Tuesday morning. Best chance to see a little snow will be across the higher terrain through Tuesday morning.

The reason this storm has been affecting the region for so long is because of blocking pattern that has set up in the upper levels of the atmosphere. A big area of high pressure has developed across Greenland and unfortunately this type of set up usually results in unseasonably cool to chilly pattern and unsettled at times too for you and I here in CNY.

At this time, as a whole, it looks like this blocking pattern will persist for at least the next 1 to 2 weeks. Hang in there central New Yorkers.

A little better Tuesday afternoon, but definitely nicer Wednesday:

The cold, blustery start to the week will be followed by damp, chilly Tuesday morning, but come Tuesday afternoon it will turn drier and slightly milder. The sky should also brighten with a little sun expected at times for the second half of Tuesday, which should push highs up to around 50.

Wednesday will begin chilly, but a bubble of high pressure will sneak in and finally provide some more appreciable sun, and more respectable temperatures as highs will make it well up into the 50s.

Last half of the week doesn’t look too bad right now:

At this time Thursday and Friday look mainly dry, with even some limited sun possible, and highs close to 60. By the way, the average high by late this week will be in the upper 60s.

We may need the umbrella again for Mother’s Day weekend:

Some rain MAY return for Mother’s Day weekend thanks to a couple of storm systems trying to converge upon the area. Stay tuned for updates on Mother Nature’s behavior for the upcoming weekend throughout the week.
