Forecast: Still warm and dry, but not for too much longer

Changes to this summer-like weather are on the way

- More gorgeous weather today! Highs back in the 70s and dry.

- Gusty winds will be around tonight, and rain arrives well after midnight into Tuesday morning.

- More seasonable air moves in Wednesday into Thursday.

- Nicer and milder weather come Friday.

- Another cool down on the way this weekend.

One more very nice day to start the week:

High pressure to the south and east will continue to influence the weather around New York State and the Northeast for the rest of today before changes take place. We will stay high, dry and unseasonably warm for the rest of today and into much of tonight, as a strengthening southerly breeze kicks up.

The thermometer readings will climb to near record territory this afternoon as highs should make it to near 75 with enough sun. That is only a couple degrees off the record high of 77 in Syracuse set back in 1991. Enjoy if you can!

Wind Advisory:

It will be quite windy, especially for the higher elevations Monday night and early Tuesday. There is a Wind Advisory for Jefferson and Lewis counties beginning 8pm Monday through 8am Tuesday.

Gusty winds and some rain returns very late tonight into Tuesday morning:

A cold front with an area of low pressure moving up along it will deliver a burst of heavy rain, possibly an embedded storm or two and gusty, possibly damaging winds, as a band of rain moves through between about 5am and 9am.

Rain should taper off by the mid to late morning hours Tuesday as the front slowly pushes east of CNY. Highs Tuesday will cool a bit into the upper 60s to low 70s which is still a good 10 to 15 degrees above average.

More seasonable air arrives mid-week:

Behind Tuesday’s cold front, it will turn much cooler and more seasonable with highs dipping back into the 50s to near 60 come Wednesday and mid-50s Thursday.

There will be intervals of sun Wednesday and possibly a shower late in the day, but for the most part Wednesday will be dry. A few scattered showers will be possible Thursday thanks to a disturbance and core of the chillier air moving overhead.

Friday and this weekend:

Right now it looks like high pressure will build back in and provide some nicer and milder weather for CNY on Friday. We’ll try to hang on to that nice weather to at least start the day Saturday.

We’ll watch for another cold front to bring some showers back to the area possibly Saturday afternoon, followed by another significant cool down to end the weekend. Stay tuned for updates.
