Former West Genesee teacher pleads guilty, must register as a sex offender

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A former West Genesee Central School District teacher pleaded guilty on Thursday to having inappropriate sexual conversations with an eighth-grader.

49-year-old Michael Spath was trying to engage the child in sexual contact.

He pleaded guilty to disseminating indecent material to a minor and endangering the welfare of a child.

The former technology teacher could be sentenced to, at most, six months behind bars, along with five years probation.

He must also surrender his teaching license, and register as a sex offender.

He will be sentenced on June 8.

Spath – who lives in Tully – taught in the West Genesee school district for more than 20 years.
