SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Gas prices are surging in cities throughout Central and Western New York ahead of Easter weekend.
According to AAA, the average price of gas has gone up 6 cents to $2.39 per gallon.
On year ago, the price was $2.04.
In the Syracuse area, the price went up 9 cents to $2.40 per gallon.
The following cities have also seen an uptick in gas prices:
- Buffalo - $2.45, up 5 cents
- Rochester - $2.41, up 6 cents
- Rome - $2.44, up 7 cents
AAA attributes the increase to both the increased demand, and the fact that refineries are switching to the more expensive summer blend of gasoline.
