New York City (WSYR-TV) – Gov. Andrew Cuomo officially signed the Compassionate Care Act Monday at the New York Academy of Medicine in New York City.

Several media outlets say the medical marijuana bill was officially signed into law behind closed doors on Saturday.

The Governor did not release any statements on the bill over the weekend.

The legislation will only allow marijuana to be administered to patients through vaporization, pills, or oils.

The Governor's signature on the bill starts an 18-month clock for the state to create rules and regulations for the program, and award contracts to where the drug can be grown and dispensed.
