Ithaca (WSYR-TV) – The president of an Ithaca schools union has been arrested for stealing thousands from her union.

According to police, 52-year-old Laureen Hamilton bilked Educational Support Professionals/Ithaca out of $7,000 while she served in the organization’s top post in 2013.

ESPI represents paraprofessionals in the Ithaca School District - including assistants and aides.

Police say Hamilton - who lives in Cayuta - admitted to making false transactions.

She has been charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a felony.

Hamilton was released on her own recognizance.
