SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Juanita Perez Williams defeated the other two Democratic candidates vying for a spot on the November ballot in the hotly contested race for Syracuse Mayor.
Williams defeated Joe Nicoletti 52 percent to 34 percent.
Nicoletti was the party-backed candidate.
Marty Masterpole received just under 10 percent.
Nicoletti offered congratulations to Williams. He is off of the Democratic ballot, but he will remain on the Working Families Party line.
While the Democratic race was one that was heavily watched on Primary Day, other parties in the Syracuse mayoral race held primaries for their November candidates as well.
Laura Lavine and Ben Walsh are already on November's General Election ballot but are seeking additional lines.
Lavine was the only name on the Independence Party and Walsh tried to unseat her with a write-in campaign.
With 72 of 73 precincts reporting, Lavine had 78 votes while there were roughly 171 write-in votes.
It’s not known who will win this line, as the write-in’s could be all, some, or none for Ben Walsh.
