Lakeshore flood warnings for eastern shore of Lake Ontario into Sunday

Gusty winds will likely worsen flood conditions

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - Lakeshore Flood Warnings have been issued for the likelihood of some significant flooding along the Lake Ontario shoreline.

The warning is in effect for Oswego County until 5PM Sunday. The warning is in effect for Northern Cayuga and Wayne counties until 2PM Sunday. The warning is also in effect for Jefferson County from 5AM Sunday until 5PM Sunday.

Winds are expected to be gusty out of the west-northwest through Saturday night, but shift into the west-southwest by sunrise Sunday and then ease Sunday evening.

These winds will likely push the still well above average water levels ashore with about 2 to 5 ft. waves, worsening the flooding on the lakeshore, bays and inlets, and low lying areas. Those waves and flooding will also further increase shoreline erosion.

Stay tuned for updates through the weekend regarding the lakeshore flooding up on Lake Ontario.
