Last Fowler Valedictorian talks overcoming challenges to achieve her dreams

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - As a new chapter begins for the class of 2017, for Fowler High School, it's the end. The school will become the Public Service Leadership Academy at Fowler next school year.

The last valedictorian at Fowler, Chaw Chaw, came to the United States three years ago from Thailand, not able to speak a word of English.

“When I talked to my friends, like if I didn't understand, I asked them the word and I’ll write on the note and when I go home, I study and read it again and again,” Chaw said.

And after years of tenacious hard work, she's finishing top of her class. She will be heading to OCC this fall to study nursing— a dream she's had since seeing a hospital nurse years ago.

“One day I’ll feel like 'oh yeah, I want to become like her’ and then helping people and helping my country, my people in my community and other people,” she said.
