Local firefighters hand out winter coats, hats to children in need

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - With cold temperatures coming over the next few months, members of the Syracuse Fire fighters Union want to help keep children warm this winter.

Operation Warm put coats in the hands of children in need.

Firefighters exceeded their $4,000 fundraising goal, so they were also able to hand out hats, gloves and mittens.

“We want to see the smiles. That's what this is all about.  It's about giving back to the community and we are proud to do so.  We as a group as you look around and you look at the number of firefighters who showed up today to do this giveaway.  We are excited to be here we are excited to do this and we can't wait to see the smiles,” said Paul Motondo of the Syracuse firefighters Local 280.

They distributed the winter gear at P.E.A.C.E. Head Start summer school in Syracuse.  The firefighters plan to hold another fundraiser next year.
