2-year-old twins in critical condition after 481 rollover crash

CICERO, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Two 2-year-old twins – a brother and sister – are in critical condition after they were thrown from a car during a rollover crash on Route 481 over South Bay Road early Tuesday morning.

According to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, one of the twins was found 20 feet below the overpass.

The Sheriff’s Office and emergency crews – including four ambulances – responded to the scene around 12:47 a.m.

They say the driver lost control of the vehicle while he was driving north on the roadway.

The vehicle struck a guiderail, and then landed in a median before rolling over several times.

The 19-year-old driver and three other passengers – a 15-year-old girl, a 13-year-old girl, and a 6-year-old boy – all suffered what deputies described as “minor injuries.”

The twins and the other victims were taken to Upstate University Hospital.

The children were not wearing proper restraints, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office doesn’t believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

They are still investigating.

The roadway was closed for some time following the crash.
