Athlete of the Week: Central Square's Erin McCarthy

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - When she was in 8th grade, Central Square senior Erin McCarthy picked up a tennis racket for the first time.

McCarthy has risen to the top, becoming the number one player for the Red Hawks.  She credits her drive to succeed to her parents.

"They have always taught us right from wrong, and it has just kind of engrained into me on how to be a good person; and what I should always do in any situation," McCarthy says.

On that court, McCarthy has excelled, but it’s her commitment in the classroom that has helped her become the top ranked student of her senior class.

"I always tease that I was just lucky enough to get the Erin McCarthy lottery; and so she came to tennis.  She is just a well rounded athlete, not just tennis.  She really does strive to be first and foremost a great academic student," Dianna Craig.
