Athlete of the Week: Danielle Rauch

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Our latest Athlete of the Week has helped her team get to their first section title since 2006 last Sunday.

To Bishop Ludden junior guard Danielle Rauch, the tournament MVP, her love for the game started at just four years old.

"Saturday mornings at 8:00, that was the day. Go to Dunkin Doughnuts with my dad in the morning and get a doughnut and than we got practice. I had these velcro sneakers, just put them on; put this little headband in my hair, keep my hair down and than I was good to go,” Rauch said.

Rauch’s family has basketball in their blood— her father, Len, was an all-time great at Le Moyne, and her brother Jack now plays at Division II Florida Southern."

"I never have felt that my dad or brother has put pressure on me to carry anything on. I think I am making my own legacy for myself. I mean they are both up there on the banners. I want to have Len Rauch, Jake Rauch and Danielle Rauch up there.  That would be pretty cool,” she said.

Rauch has stuffed the stat sheet this season becoming the Gaelic Knights all-time leading scorer. Now she has her sights set on a bigger prize."

"One goal at a time. We have this sheet, and it was like to win the league, I checked that off. To win sectionals, I checked that off last night. They are just like stepping stones to get to the big picture and that is going to be states,” she says.
