At least 17 people were killed in a shooting at a high school in Florida.

Law enforcement responded to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland (Broward County), Florida.

Aerial footage from ABC News shows SWAT teams surrounding the building.

Several others are injured.

President Donald Trump took to Twitter to express his condolences.

The district released a statement said gunfire was heard just before dismissal and the school went into immediate lockdown.

ABC News reports that 12 of the fatalities occurred in the school, two outside, one on the street and one died in the hospital.

The suspect had one AR-15 and numerous magazines.

There are 3,000 students at the school.

This is the 18th school shooting of the year.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office says the shooter, identified as Nicolas Cruz, has been taken into custody.

Cruz is around 18 years old and appears to be a former student, deputies say.

This is a developing story.
