Tompkins County search resumes for ex-cop wanted for theft

TRUMANSBURG, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A woman has told Trumansburg police she spotted Andrew Jacobsen Wednesday at 6:45 a.m. on Rabbit Run Road in Trumansburg.

The search for Jacobsen resumed at 7 Wednesday morning.

He's described as 6'2, 230 pounds, bushy beard, khaki shorts and barefoot.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are in the village of Trumansburg in Tompkins County, searching for Jacobsen  who escaped from the police station. 

Trumansburg schools are in "lockout" as the search continues. The school district noted that while Jacobsen is not considered a threat to public safety, they are taking extra measures out of an abundance of caution.

According to the Trumansburg Police Chief, Jacobsen, was taken in for grand larceny when he escaped police custody.

Jacobsen was a former officer with the department, and he was terminated a four years ago.

Police let Jacobsen out for a cigarette when he pushed an officer and got away. 

Officers do not believe Jacobsen is dangerous. 

Trumansburg Police, along with Ithaca Police, the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office, State Police, the DEC and New York State Park Police are out searching for Jacobsen.
