Best ways to avoid pain if you sleep in the same position all night

WSYR-TV - Once your head hits the pillow, you just want to close your eyes, but did you know you risk injury if you sleep in the same position all night?

If you're a back sleeper, make sure you're using a memory foam or latex pillow, so you have the right neck support.

If back pain makes sleeping flat a challenge, try putting a pillow under your knees, and avoid watching TV on your back as you fall asleep, because it could cause neck pain.

If you're a side sleeper, trying keeping your head in a neutral position, with your chin straight ahead...similar to proper posture while standing. Tucking your chin down creates a painful head forward position.

Stomach sleepers have to be careful. Keeping your head turned in one direction for any period of time will cause pain -- and avoid bringing one leg up because it can make hips and low back sore.

If it's hard to break your stomach-sleeping habit, try sleeping on your side with a body pillow.
