Bigger crowd enjoys sunshine at 23rd annual Race for the Cure

TOWN OF GEDDES (WSYR-TV) - Saturday's sunshine provided a pleasant backdrop for the 23rd annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at the New York State Fairgrounds.

The nice weather brought out a bigger crowd with about 400 survivors registered, and thousands of supporters racing alongside them.

Organizers say some proceeds go toward research and some go to partnerships with local doctors and hospitals.

"A lot of these women, who are only one or two year survivors, are still going through it. They are so vulnerable and they are so scared. To have this great big community of people and support, they know that they are not alone. It is so important," said Cindy Mauldin, who signed up to race in support of a friend.

Organizers hope to top last year's total, when runners raised over $300,000.
