Boil-water advisory issued in Cayuga County

Village of Union Springs and some residents in Springport affected

CAYUGA COUNTY, NY (WSYR-TV) - The Cayuga County Health Department has issued a boil-water advisory for some families in the Village of Union Springs and the Town of Springport.

Neighbors that use the Union Springs public water system or whose homes are located within Water District 1 in Springport should avoid drinking water straight from the tap.

The Health Department says the water system lost pressure during repairs and may contain untreated water and harmful microbes that could get you sick.

Once repairs are completed, samples will be taken to determine if the water is safe again.

The order could remain in effect for a few days.

Health officials recommend neighbors bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute, and cool before using, or use bottled water.

The Health Department will notify individuals in the Town and Village Water Districts when they no longer need to boil their water.

Anyone with questions may call the Cayuga County Health Department at 315-253-1405 or after hours at 315-253-1560.
