Celebration of life held for 11-year old killed by car in Dryden

DRYDEN (WSYR-TV) - Friends of Kaylee Wacht gathered at Dryden High School Saturday to remember the 11-year old's life. Wacht was hit by a car and killed last Sunday while walking at night with her teenage friend.

The ceremony featured some of Wacht's favorite activities including dancing, selfie booths, and cheerleading.

"We wanted to try to give the children at school a way to say goodbye that might be less traumatic than other events," Carrie Powers, Wacht's aunt and one of the event's organizers, said.

Most of Wacht's family members attended the event and were thankful for the outpouring of support from the Dryden community.

$10,000 dollars has already been raised for Wacht's funeral expenses, and a separate fund is being established within the school district to help children who are going through traumatic circumstances.

"Just to see that outpouring from so many people who may or may not have known her is incredible," Rhonda Kowalski, one of the event organizers, said.
