CNY boy has 1 wish: tour 77 local fire stations

So far, he's seen 25 in Central New York

A Central New York boy is hoping for one thing this summer- to tour all the firehouses in the area. It's a wish 12-year-old Joey Abt has had for years.
In December of 2015, Joey spent 6 weeks in the hospital with Pneumonia. Now, his family is  helping him tackle each fire station, one by one.

Joey pulled up to the Cicero Volunteer Fire Department in a police cruiser, but he wasn't in trouble. He was there on a tour. It was one of almost 80 he hopes to take before the heat of summer disappears. "Pure excitement, it never gets old for him," says his mom, Diane Abt. "Even on a hot day at camp he'll want to drive in to the city to go to a hot station."

He goes to watch his real-life heroes do what he hopes to do one day. "He knows what he wants and he's not afraid to ask. He's smart, funny, and he wants to be a firefighter," adds his mom.

But even now, he won't just stand and watch, because that is just not who he is. "That's one of Joeys greatest gifts," says his sister, Nicole DeMauro, "He's always cool and calm and collected. Nothing makes him nervous or anxious."

He's teaching his role models that determination beats Down Syndrome and nothing will hold him back.
