CNY church asks community to 'spread the love' with PBJ 500

Second annual effort to benefit Food Bank of CNY

ONONDAGA COUNTY (WSYR-TV) - For the second year in a row, Liverpool Christian Church is calling on its members and the entire Central New York community to help feed hungry families.

Every summer, the Food Bank of CNY experiences a lull in donations, according to the organization.

With the added need for staple food items like peanut butter and jelly – the church's leader is asking people to help collect 500 jars of each by the end of July. The effort is called the “PBJ 500.”

“It’s so easy to do,” said Wayne Wagner, pastor at Liverpool Christian Church. “If you’re heading to the grocery store – throw in a few jars.”

Wagner says more than 100 jars of jelly and near 200 jars of peanut butter have already been collected.

Last year's total exceeded the goal.

Drop-off locations for this year’s drive include: Liverpool Christian Church, Timber Banks Country Club, Custom Logo USA, Cafe at 407, Northwest YMCA, The Artisan and Rio Grande.
