CNY group hides rocks, spreads smiles

Syracuse, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Painted rocks. It's a simple concept but the impact is extraordinary.

"It was a little piece of salvation to just change the heaviness and the tone of that whole visit. So I thought, well we could do something like that," says Donna Romano.

She started the Central New York movement CNY Rocks, after finding a hidden rock on a hospital visit in Ohio.

"Let's lighten it up a little bit. Let's think about the positive things. Let's make some positive things happen- even if they're only little rocks," she says.

It was an idea that took off quickly. Hundreds now spending time focused on fun, and on making someone's day better.

"It's kind of cool to see people act nice and do something really nice for other people," says Sophia Schedler, a teen involved in CNY Rocks.

You don't have to be an artist either. The only thing that matters is kindness.

"You can just be a finder. You can go out and find a rock and let us know that you found it," says active painter and member of CNY Rocks, Candi Wilbur, "Use ours to take somewhere and re-hide somewhere else. It's not that you have to do this to be a part of us."

If you're not involved already and you want to be, head out to your local park, look for to paint or hide those you find. Share your discover on social media with the hashtag CNYRocks. The group has set up a Facebook page.
