Community sock drive underway for Syracuse's Samaritan Center

More than 300 pairs already collected

DEWITT, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Update: Since the airing of this story on NewsChannel 9, we've learned that more than 300 pairs of new socks have been collected.

Many people are looking for ways to give back during the holidays.

A Liverpool woman recently learned just how generous the Central New York community really is.

While scrolling through Facebook -- Samantha Farok noticed a need in the community.

"It actually came to me in a post that I had read a few months ago that socks are one of the most needed items from our community and the least donated," Farok shared. "The idea just stuck with me and it meant a lot that something so small could do so much to change people's lives."

Farok says people quickly got on board and donated pairs of socks to the drive which will benefit the Samaritan Center in Syracuse.

"It started with 100 between my family and friends, people close to me," Farok said. "They wanted to share to with the yoga community. It's really grown already and we've gotten more than 200 pairs so far."

The collection's success nudged Farok to extend the drive through Saturday, Dec. 16. All new pairs of socks can be dropped off at O Yoga studio in DeWitt, located at 4467 E. Genesee St.

People interested in donating new pairs of socks for children and adults should call (315) 314-7915 to find the best drop-off times.
