Constituent's threatening email to Rep. Tenney: 'One down, 216 to go'

WASHINGTON (WSYR-TV) - Capitol Police are investigating a threatening email sent to Congresswoman Claudia Tenney.

The email came in just minutes after her colleague, Congressman Steve Scalise, was shot at a baseball field where he was practicing for a Congressional Baseball game.

The email, which appears to be sent by a constituent in Boonville in Oneida County, reads:

"One down, 216 to go ...
Did you not expect this? When you take away ordinary peoples very lives in order to pay off the wealthiest among us, your own lives are forfeit. Certainly, your souls and mortality were lost long before. Good riddance."

Tenney says it's not the first threat she's received and her office is routinely in touch with Capitol Hill Police.

Tenney, who considers Scalise a friend, tells NewsChannel 9:

"I've been around politics for a while. I was a college student when Ronald Reagan was president. I thought it couldn't get worse than that. (Then) the Bush years. There was criticism of President Obama, but I have never seen anything like this. What I would like to say is I think the message from Speaker Ryan and Leader Pelosi was a good message. It was a message of unification for us, as leaders in Congress, to change the dialog."
