David Muir returns home for "Citizen of the Year" honor in Syracuse

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - Nearly 500 people gathered in Syracuse Saturday for the Temple Adath Yeshurun's annual Citizen of the Year dinner.

Among the honorees was ABC World News Tonight anchor and Syracuse native David Muir.

Muir was introduced by NewsChannel 9's Carrie Lazarus. They've been friends since his days as a television reporter in the area from 1995-2000.

"I grew up learning from the best and when you think about this community, about the coaches at Syracuse University, the people who have been pillars of our community, the talent level in this community when it comes to journalism is extraordinary and it's not just because I was impressionable, ecause I have worked with many many talented journalists along the way," Muir said.

Since becoming anchor in 2014, Muir has helped ABC World News Tonight become the most watched network evening newscast for the first time in 21 years.
