SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - New York State Troopers issued 21,148 tickets during "Speed Week,' which ran from Wednesday, August 2 through Tuesday, August 8.

State Police report that they ticketed 9,205 drivers for speeding, 348 for distracted driving, and arrested 234 people for driving while impaired.

In Central New York (Troop D), 2,004 tickets were issued, including 934 for speed.

In the Finger Lakes Region (Troop E), 1,699 tickets were issued, 633 of them for speed.

On the New York State Thruway (Troop T), 3,617 tickets were issued, 2,188 for speed.

The increased enforcement included looking for impaired and distracted drivers, seat belts and drivers violating the "Mover Over Law." Some vehicles used were not marked.
