Driver being chased by Syracuse police crashes into tree

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - Part of Teall Avenue in Syracuse was surrounded by caution tape Sunday night as investigators looked through a vehicle that crashed after a police chase.

Police say, an officer spotted a driver passing through a red light just before 8 p.m. at the corner of Columbus Avenue and Erie Boulevard East.

The officer says the driver refused to pull over, sparking a chase that ended minutes later when the driver lost control and hit a tree after trying to skirt around another vehicle on Robinson Street, near Teall Avenue.

The driver and a passenger are being treated at Upstate University Hospital. Police are expecting to issue numerous vehicle and traffic charges.
