Liverpool man charged with DWI after crashing into a house

SALINA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A Liverpool man is facing multiple charges including drunk driving after his car crashed into a home on Buckley Road early Saturday morning.

According to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, 32-year-old Jamell Works was driving east on Beechwood Avenue around 2 a.m. when he ran a stop sign at the intersection with Buckley Road and crashed into the house.

Liverpool Fire and Rescue personnel were able to pull Works from the vehicle after about 13 minutes.

A Salina Town Codes Officer on the scene told NewsChannel 9 the car could not be immediately removed until the home was fully supported, otherwise, the home could collapse.

Works was taken to Upstate University Hospital, but the Sheriff’s Office does not believe his injuries are life threatening.

The home sustained what the Sheriff’s Office describes as “significant damage.”

The owners were not home when the crash occurred, but the Sheriff’s Office says they have been notified.

One neighbor told NewsChannel 9 that she heard the crash from more than a block away.

"I was in bed watching TV and I heard a large boom and of course I heard all the ambulances and everything come,” said neighbor Tina Dischiave. “I came out here to see this car lodged underneath basically this house right here."
