Fair vendor raised prices just once in 36 years

Geddes, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - When it comes to food at the Fair, it seems like the options are endless but if you're looking for a place with the kind of prices you remember as a kid, one Fair vendor can help.

This summer, like the last 35, you can find John Emmi at the Fairgrounds working his food stand Emmi's Hots.

"I know a lot of people. The ones that have been here the longest. It's like a little club," Emmi says of his years at the NYS Fair.

Vendors like Emmi are all competing for the same thing - thousands of hungry fair-goers looking for a tasty treat.

But Emmi has something different, "I work on volume so I try to keep my prices low. I've only changed a couple. It used to be two hot dogs for a dollar now it's one hot dog for a dollar," he says.

$1.00 gets you a hot dog, $3.00 gets you a double cheeseburger and a soda. Those are prices that have changed just once in nearly four decades.

"You got 3 or 4 kids? I'll tell ya it's a lot of money if you go some place else so we try to be the family restaurant type thing," Emmi says, explaining his decision to keep those prices.

Even at 75 years old, he plans to keep coming to the fair and keep his prices as low as possible.

His stand is just a few steps behind the dairy building as you head toward the Midway.
